Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's NGO, Legal Reform Movement (Gerah), urged the National Task Force for COVID-19 Response, Health Ministry, and Jakarta provincial government to break the COVID-19 transmission chain at the Corruption Eradication Commission’s (KPK’s) Guntur detention center.

"The COVID-19 Task Force has, until now, not conducted any concrete investigations or taken measures related to efforts to break the chain of COVID-19 transmission at the KPK detention center, where it became clear that one of the prisoners had earlier tested positive for COVID-19 and was receiving hospital treatment," Aries Isnan Ridho, the Gerah chairman, noted here on Tuesday.

Ridho urged the authorities to act swiftly and adopt strict measures, as another detainee had reportedly contracted the virus.

Earlier, Ali Fikri, the acting KPK spokesman, confirmed that one KPK detainee was currently undergoing treatment at the Gatot Soebroto Army Central Hospital, Central Jakarta, as he had tested positive for COVID-19.

Fikri noted that to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the person in charge of the detention center had also coordinated with the Setiabudi Community Health Center, South Jakarta, for further action against other detainees, with indications of having come in close contact with the patient.

In the interim, the Guntur detention center had halted the interviews of detainees, while the urgent trial court is conducted virtually, with detainees at the detention center, he revealed.

Earlier, 115 people, including investigators and employees of the KPK, had contracted COVID-19.

Of the 115 people, a total of 33 individuals had made a recovery, while 81 others, including 54 KPK employees, had conducted self-isolation. Related news: 115 people working in KPK building compounds contract COVID-19
