Through the latest ‘Tips Pintar’ (Smart Tips) feature in the driver application, millions of Gojek driver partners can now access various online training modules to improve their skills and knowledge.
Coinciding with the commemoration of '16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence’, Gojek has presented two new materials on the Smart Tips feature for driver partners in Indonesia.
The first module is on identifying and preventing sexual violence. The module contains information on identifying the types of sexual violence that often occur in the immediate environment, as well as steps that can be taken to prevent or tackle this type of violence.
The second module covers the process of sexual violence case referral. The module contains information on steps that can be taken when dealing with or helping victims of sexual violence.
Both modules were co-developed with Hollaback! Jakarta, a non-profit organization active in 27 countries around the world, which aims to end sexual violence in public spaces.
The online training modules have been developed according to the daily activities of driver partners so that they are right on target, easy to understand, and easy to learn whenever the partners have free time.
Raditya Wibowo, Gojek's chief transport officer said that providing access to information on sexual violence through the ‘Smart Tips’ feature to millions of partners, is part of the #AmanBersamaGojek initiative to create a safe culture in public spaces with the help of professional and reliable driver partners.
In the public sphere, he said, Gojek driver partners can be involved as parties who actively provide security, not only for themselves and customers but also for the general public.
"This also contributes to the user's sense of security," he remarked.
Raditya further explained that similar training has previously been routinely carried out face-to-face with hundreds of partners in eight major cities through the Partner Learning Workshop program.
"Responding to the challenges in this pandemic where face-to-face training is not possible, we are innovating through technology. Various training materials for driver partners, including anti-sexual violence material, can now be accessed directly online by all Gojek driver partners through the application, anytime, and anywhere,” he said.
In addition to education, Gojek is also carrying out comprehensive initiatives to help build safe public spaces.
With the help of technology, Gojek is ensuring user safety through a series of features clubbed under Gojek SHIELD.
It has also introduced the “Safe Zone with Gojek” initiative, which aims to create woman-friendly spaces by utilizing Gojek shelters or pick-up points in several locations in Indonesia.
For its comprehensive initiatives in creating safe public spaces for women, Gojek has been awarded the first national winner in the Community and Industry Engagement category at the UN Women Asia-Pacific 2020 Women's Empowerment Principles Awards.
Anindya Restuviani, co-director of Hollaback! Jakarta, has also expressed support for Gojek initiatives.
"I appreciate Gojek's steps to always be at the forefront and serious in providing concrete public education related to safe public spaces," she stated.
Even when the COVID-19 pandemic struck, Anindya said, Gojek's enthusiasm to continue to equip its partners did not subside, as evident by Gojek's investment in making learning platforms for drivers, Smart Tips, and incorporating intervention methods for witnesses of sexual violence into the module.
"The existence of trained Gojek partners and a very significant number [of initiatives] in the public space, certainly brings a breath of fresh air to the creation of security in the public space," Anindya stated.
Meanwhile, Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Protection of the Republic of Indonesia, I Gusti Ayu Bintang Darmawati Puspayoga, lauded Gojek's efforts towards educating its partners on sexual violence prevention.
The minister said the existence of an online training module, which can be accessed by all driver partners, shows the seriousness of Gojek in creating a culture of safe public spaces.
"Since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Gojek and the Women Empowerment and Child Protection Ministry, or KPPPA, in 2019, we appreciate Gojek's complete approach in improving security for women, such as providing a Safe Zone with Gojek for women to wait and becoming our partner in socializing the prevention of sexual violence in public spaces. We hope that the steps that Gojek has taken to continue collaborating with stakeholders can inspire other business actors," Minister Puspayoga said.
She also conveyed a special message for Gojek driver partners through educational videos in the Smart Tips module.
She encouraged driver partners to learn about and avoid various forms of violence, especially sexual violence.
"Do not be afraid to report because we have rights protected by the state, let us fight all forms of violence together and support the Gojek ecosystem to continue to be a friendly environment for all, especially women and children," the minister said.
Currently, the daily number of partners who access the Smart Tips feature, launched in September, 2019, through the application stands at 40 thousand.
In addition to training materials on sexual violence, Smart Tips also contains a variety of useful self-development materials to support service quality, with topics tailored to the needs and aspirations of driver partners, such as the training modules on safe driving or providing excellent service to customers.
After the COVID-19 pandemic struck, the Smart Tips feature began providing information about the steps that driver partners need to undertake the J3K Protocol (Keep Healthy, Cleanliness, and Security).
This has been done so that customers and driver partners feel comfortable when using Gojek services, the company said.
