Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has pinned hopes on Bank Indonesia (BI) partaking more significantly in the fundamental reform being currently pushed by the government.

"I are optimistic that Bank Indonesia would play a more significant part in the fundamental reforms that we are currently conducting," Jokowi noted during a virtual briefing at the 2020 Bank Indonesia Annual Meeting here on Thursday.

The head of state also expressed optimism that BI would be a bigger contributor to aid in driving the real sector, create more job opportunities, and help business actors, particularly MSMEs, to be productive again.

"During this ongoing crisis, we must be able to move quickly and precisely as well as shed sectoral egos and institutional egocentricities," he noted.

Jokowi emphasized that all parties should channel their attention on moving forward in a bid to tackle the pandemic and meticulously prepare vaccines and vaccination programs, so that Indonesia can rise and recover from the pandemic.

"We have to move fast since we had yet to finish a lot of homework. We are witnessing massive unemployment owing to layoffs during the pandemic. We are faced with a large workforce that requires jobs. Hence, the government is conducting structural reforms," he added.
