Jakarta (ANTARA) - Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Arifin Tasrif, in his capacity as the National Energy Council (DEN) executive chief, inaugurated and swore in eight DEN members and stakeholders for the 2020-2025 term here on Friday.

President Joko Widodo appointed the eight DEN members and stakeholders in accordance with Presidential Decree No. 135/P/2020, dated December 30, 2020.

"As a follow-up to the presidential decree, today, I inaugurate and swear in the DEN members and stakeholders for the 2020-2025 term. I say congratulations and hope you would be able to fulfill this mandate properly," he affirmed.

The eight DEN members and stakeholders are Agus Puji Prasetyono and Musri representing academics, Satya Widya Yudha and Herman Darnel Ibrahim representing the industry, Daryatmo Mardiyanto and Eri Purnomohadi representing consumers, As Natio Lasman for technology and Yusra Khan for environment.

Energy Law No. 30 of 2007 stipulates that DEN members are tasked with designing and formulating the national energy policy, specifying the national energy general plan, taking energy crisis and emergency steps, and supervising cross-sectoral energy policy.

Tasrif is optimistic that the newly installed DEN members to use their respective experience to expedite the government's energy program, so that all sides can realize and apply strategic programs and implement them suitably.

Looking forward, the government is readying various strategies to handle the rising energy demand with limited capacity of energy supply.

To this end, the programs should be able to review and evaluate the national energy general plan owing to a change in indicators in the fields of energy and economy, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
