Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's air traffic controller lost contact with a commercial flight operated by Sriwijaya Air en route Jakarta to Pontianak, West Kalimantan Province. It is feared that the plane crashed near Lancang Island, Pulau Seribu District, here on Saturday.

The airplane with flight number SJ 182 CGK-PNK had its last contact with the air traffic controller when it was at 10,000 feet altitude at 2:40 p.m. local time, the state-owned air navigation firm, AirNav Indonesia, said.

"I'm heading to the airport for updates and more details," AirNav Indonesia's spokesperson Yohannes Sirait said to ANTARA, today while he confirmed the lost contact report.

Sriwijaya Airlines had not released any statement and it did not immediately respond to requests for confirmation.
