Jakarta (ANTARA) - Ciliwung River overflowed its bank and caused flooding in the Kebon Pala residential area, Kampung Melayu, East Jakarta, since 2 a.m. local time on Monday.

The floodwaters, reaching a height of up to two meters, affected some 300 people, Hasnan, head of the RT 11 neighborhood unit at Kebon Pala, stated.

"The floodwaters reaches about two meters in height. The floodwaters began to arise at around two in the morning," he recalled.

The Jakarta provincial government has yet to dispatch relief aid to the flood victims, according to Hasnan.

Joni, another resident of Kebon Pala, remarked that flooding also submerged the stilt houses initiated by the Jakarta provincial government.

"The houses on stilts are also flooded underneath," he pointed out.

Despite the flooding, most flood victims decided to stay indoors.

The floodwaters arose from the upstream of Depok, West Java.
