Cibinong, Bogor, W Java (ANTARA) - Bogor District in West Java has apportioned Rp900 million of the regional budget for rice farming insurance in 2021.

"The farming insurance card is a synergy program with the Agriculture Ministry, wherein Bogor District has allocated Rp900 of the insurance fund for 25 thousand hectares of paddy field in 2021," Bogor District Head Ade Yasin stated here on Thursday.

The farming insurance will protect farmers from drought-induced financial losses.

By the end of 2020, nearly 245 farmer groups in the district, with 2,020 hectares of land, were covered under the insurance.

Yasin highlighted the government’s target to cover five thousand hectares of rice fields in 2021, 2022, and 2023 respectively.

The Bogor district administration has issued District Head Regulation No. 30 of 2019 on the mechanism to provide rice farming insurance premium in aid for farmers.

In 2020, farmers in 40 sub-districts in Bogor District produced 477,255 tons of rice from 37,658 hectares of land out of 174,369 hectares in the district. Related news: Indonesia allocates Rp1.5 billion for fish farming insurance
