Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (KemenPPPA), Bintang Puspayoga, has urged women to be adaptive and courageous in facing challenges, especially in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic situation.

"This pandemic situation encourages all of us to be able to immediately adapt to the changes that occur. To realize quality human resources, women are required to dare to change, dare to speak up and dare to innovate new things to be able to get out of the problems they face," Minister Puspayoga said in a statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The PPPA is concentrating on improving the quality of human resources, she said.

The government is continuing to try to remove the barriers to women's empowerment, namely violence, she informed.

President Joko Widodo has asked the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection to resolve five priority issues, one of which is reducing violence against women and children, Puspayoga said.

"Various efforts and massive movements for prevention of violence, handling and development of empowerment models for women victims of violence. Advocacy, socialization, education, and literalization for women to be technologically literate," she added.

These steps would be quite effective to break the chain of cases of violence against women, the minister averred. In addition, it would also be strengthened by integrated handling downstream, she stated.

"The Ministry has received additional tasks and functions to provide final referral services for women victims of violence that require coordination at national, cross-provincial, and international levels. This policy is contained in Presidential Regulation No. 65 of 2020. This function is already running through the Friends of Women and Children services," she said.

Saying that violence is a complex and multi-sectoral issue, Minister Puspayoga also asked for support from all parties to be able to work together, synergize, and collaborate to ensure women's empowerment and child protection.

"Let us join hands together for a safe world for women and children. Together, we will open the widest possible access for women and children to be able to seize better opportunities in the future," the minister stated.
