Governor Lukas Enembe praised Papua Province's Perserosi Head Jefri Abel and other Perserosi officials that have performed the talent scouting and coaching activities properly
Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA) - The Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe lauded the Papuan team's success in bagging gold medals in the National Sport Weeks (PON) XX's roller skating match and attributed the success to the Indonesian Roller Skating Federation's (Perserosi's) Papua Province branch.

"Governor Lukas Enembe praised Papua Province's Perserosi Head Jefri Abel and other Perserosi officials that have performed the talent scouting and coaching activities properly," Papuan Governor's spokesperson, Muhammad Rifai Darus, stated here, Tuesday.

He lauded the Papuan roller skating team for its success in securing four gold medals from the men's and women's 100-meter individual time trial and men's and women's 400-meter individual time trial matches, Darus noted.

The province's roller skating team athlete also bagged a bronze medal in the women's 400-meter ITT race, he added.

Papuans should be proud and appreciative of the roller skating team's success at this year's PON Games, as the province's delegates improved their performance from the last 2016 PON XIX Games when the province only won one gold medal, Darus emphasized.

"With the current standing of our roller skating athletes of four gold and one bronze medal, Governor Enembe expressed hope this positive trend would continue, and a new page in the history of roller skating would be written by Papuan athletes," he remarked.

He was especially fascinated by the mostly young roller skating athletes while drawing attention to athlete Dave Abel, 14, who achieved a remarkable feat at such a young age, the spokesperson noted.

"The young athletes hold vast potential for Papua and Indonesia, and our efforts to encourage and hone athletes should be enhanced to bring them to international competitions," Darus stated.

Enembe also earlier spent his time attending a match at Jayapura's Klemen Tinal Roller Sports Stadium to support competing roller skating athletes while also reviewing the match venue's conditions and facilities, he added.
