Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Ministry organized a three-day e-commerce training for micro-enterprises on Tidung Island in Thousand Islands District, Jakarta Province, to push digitization and upskill tourism sector players, especially in online marketing.

"Micro businesses must rise up. Do not let them be be thrown out of business," Deputy for Micro Business at the ministry Eddy Satrya said in a press statement received here on Saturday.

The COVID-19 pandemic led to a decline in business activity, he observed. The same thing happened to Tidung Island business players, who rely on the tourism sector, he said.

The Cooperatives and SMEs Ministry is committed to helping Tidung Island micro-enterprises with training so that they can continue to be productive and creative in the midst of difficulties, Satrya said.

“Whatever the conditions, on a small island or a large island, we must always survive. What can be done, both handicraft products, culinary products to meet the needs of the community," he remarked.

The deputy also visited two recipients of the Tidung Island Micro Business Productive Assistance (BPUM).

The trainee said the tourism sector will hopefully get recovered soon because it is the source of income for residents on Thousand Islands.

The e-commerce training is expected to be helpful in preparing for the rise and movement of businesses once the tourism sector revives, Satrya said.

Thirty micro-enterprises from the tourism sector in the Thousand Islands region took part in the training, he said.

The training was conducted for three days from October 8 to 10, 2021. It took place at Tidung village, and it was carried out in accordance with the COVID-19 health protocols, he said.

Participants received materials on digital marketing strategy and market research, people and big data and marketing mix, types of ads, and advertising platforms, he said.

They also received training in social media marketing, introduction to online media and online sales preparation, online content creation and online sales management, as well as online marketplace practices, he added.
