Our achievements have been acknowledged by them.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, has highlighted Indonesia's firm commitment to mitigating the impacts of climate change.

"The President of the United States’ Special Envoy, John Kerry, and I discussed at length how to develop climate change mitigation programs. I have told him that Indonesia is solemn about the issue," he said at the virtual Climate Festival 2021-Climate Leaders Message 2021, accessed online from here on Monday.

In addition, he emphasized that as the largest archipelagic country which owns many tropical forests, tackling climate change has been Indonesia’s national interest, which has been reflected in its policies, community education, and empowerment, as well as law enforcement.

Furthermore, the coordinating minister also told the US envoy that in recent years, deforestation activities, as well as the conversion of natural forests and peatlands in Indonesia, have continued to decline.

“Our achievements have been acknowledged by them,” he remarked.

Moreover, Indonesia has recorded an 82-percent decline in forest and land fires, while at the same time, the number of such incidents has increased in several regions of America, Australia, and Europe, he noted.

Tackling climate change cannot only depend on the resolutions made during international conferences, Pandjaitan said.

He then urged all stakeholders to contribute to resolving the global issue.

He also urged the younger generation to support attempts to tackle climate change, saying the younger generation has high adaptability.

Furthermore, Pandjaitan invited all stakeholders to collaborate to achieve the goals and targets of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) through the vision of the Long-term Strategy on Low Carbon and Climate Resilience 2050 (LTS-LCCR 2050).

"Through the Climate Festival 2021, the government encourages all stakeholders to participate in climate action to achieve national emission reduction targets and climate resilience together," he added.

NDC is an emission reduction contribution document that reflects the commitment of each state party to the Paris Agreement.
