The current progress in construction reaches around 88 percent.Jakarta (ANTARA) - Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono has targeted to complete the construction of the second phase of the Banjarbakula Regional Water Supply System (SPAM) by the end of 2021.
"The current progress in construction reaches around 88 percent. Thus, the total capacity of the system -- which is located in Banjarbaru City, South Kalimantan Province -- will be 750 liters per second," the minister noted in a written statement received here on Friday.
The project aims to improve the services of regional-owned tap water enterprise (PDAM) in Banjar Baru City, Banjar District, and Tanah Laut District, with a total of some 74 thousand customers.
The minister undertook a working visit to review the progress in construction of the Banjarbakula Regional SPAM on Thursday.
In addition, the visit aimed at monitoring the operations of various infrastructures in line with the ministry’s infrastructure Optimization, Maintenance, Operation, and Rehabilitation Policy.

"I want to see the development directly to ensure that it runs well. I expect the facility to be beneficial to the community and function properly," Hadimuljono noted.
Meanwhile, construction is currently underway for several supporting facilities of the water supply system.
The facilities comprise a Water Treatment Plant (IPA), with a capacity of 500 liters per second, a Muslimin reservoir building having a capacity of two thousand cubic meters, a Pinus reservoir building with a capacity of one thousand cubic meters, a pump post, as well as a monitoring system.
Earlier, the first phase of SPAM was constructed during the 2014-2016 period, with a capacity of 250 liters per second and a reservoir building having a capacity of two thousand cubic meters.
