This collective movement to protect natural resources, especially among Indonesian youth, should be encouraged to raise awareness regarding the danger of the climate crisis now and in the future.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) and EcoNusa Foundation will collaborate to organize the Youth Preserve Climate Action Movement, which will aim to encourage youth involvement in activities for stemming climate change.

"This collective movement to protect natural resources, especially among Indonesian youth, should be encouraged to raise awareness regarding the danger of the climate crisis now and in the future," CEO of EcoNusa Foundation, Bustar Maitar, said.

Joining a virtual press conference from here on Wednesday, Maitar informed that, in addition to the ministry, EcoNusa Foundation will also collaborate with Indonesian Scout (Pramuka), universities, and various other organizations for the movement.

The Youth Preserve Climate Action Movement will be launched in 76 locations on Thursday (October 28, 2021) during the commemoration of Youth Pledge Day, he said.

The event locations are spread across Indonesian provinces, starting from the western end of the country all the way up to the eastern end, he added.

As part of the Youth Preserve Climate Action Movement, 4,202 participants will undertake activities such as cleaning garbage at beaches and planting mangrove trees, he informed.

The event itself has been carried out since the beginning of October 2021through virtual discussions, live events on social media, and concerts, he said.

According to KKP official Kusdiantoro, the collaboration is part of activities aimed at preserving the climate and the movement intends to get the younger generation to care for shorelines and river ecosystems.

Collaborating with Maitar and his team to collectively preserve our climate is not a bad move, he remarked.

"Through this collective action, we hope that it would provide a positive impact to the ecosystem, while also giving inspiration and benefit to the people," he added.
