Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Home Affairs Ministry is ready to synchronize central and regional government policies to accommodate the implementation of the recently-passed National Capital Law, according to the ministry's Directorate General for Regional Development.

"We are ready to collaborate in implementing policies mandated by the regulation," director for regional authority harmonization at the directorate general, Iwan Kurniawan, said while making a presentation on the constitutionality of the National Capital Law.

The presentation was streamed by the University of Indonesia's Centre for Constitutional Law Studies on YouTube and accessed from Jakarta on Friday.

According to Kurniawan, one of the mandates that the ministry will perform is facilitating the policy drafting process to ensure harmonization with higher laws.

The ministry will also collaborate with authorities in regions close to the new national capital Nusantara, East Kalimantan, that must adjust their development plan as the peripheral areas of the new capital in the future, he added.

"The development plan, spatial planning, government programs, and targets set by the regions must align with the National Capital Law, as regulation harmonization will boost our effort to achieve the national target," Kurniawan explained.

The ministry will assist in the drafting of derivative regulations to the National Capital Law to ensure the regulations support Nusantara city's governance in the future, he said.

"We hope the President will give his assent to National Capital Law to expedite the government regulation drafting process to help us create a master plan for the new capital," he added.

The finalization of the National Capital Law would provide the legal basis for the issuance of presidential and government regulations for implementing the law, and the derivative regulations are expected to be completed within two years of the bill's passing, at the latest, the director noted.

"The Home Affairs Ministry fully supports national capital relocation. Moreover, some policies enacted by the National Capital Law are relevant to the ministry's duties and functions," he remarked.
