Apart from complying with the air pollution reduction policy in the shipping sector (IMO 2020), awareness to use natural gas also continues to increase among industries in East Kalimantan.
LNG fuel, a clean and environmentally friendly energy, was used by TEN to test the engine of the DDF ship.
"This is a good sign that more and more industrial sectors, especially the maritime industry, are realizing the importance of using LNG as a cleaner and economically profitable energy," President Director of Pertagas Niaga Aminuddin noted in his statement here on Thursday.
In the initial stage, TEN uses LNG with a volume of 20 MMBTU. If the trial process held on Saturday were to go smoothly, TEN would increase its volume to meet the fuel needs to drive the ship's engines.
Pertagas Niaga's LNG supply was obtained from the Filling Station Plant 26 of Pertamina Gas in Bontang, East Kalimantan.

Subholding Gas is optimistic that the use of LNG in the maritime sector would continue to expand in accordance with the geographical characteristics of the Indonesian territory and also its use in various sectors along with the increasing awareness of several parties to use environmentally friendly energy in accordance with environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitments.
