This is a real challenge that Indonesia is currently responding to by relocating the capital city
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Presidential Staff Office (KSP) stated that relocation of the state capital city from Jakarta to East Kalimantan is Indonesia's response to the real challenge of global warming.

"Based on research data, without reducing carbon emissions, the earth's temperature will increase by 1.5 to three degrees Celsius in 2050. This is a real challenge that Indonesia is currently responding to by relocating the capital city," KSP's main expert staff Wandy Tuturoong noted in a press release here on Monday.

Tuturoong highlighted Indonesia's commitment to partake in reducing its carbon emissions by 29 percent by 2030, and by 41 percent with help from the international world.

"We need to accelerate and make efforts that are out of the box to showcase that commitment, especially in 2030, as it is only eight years away," he stated.

Tuturoong expressed optimism that by realizing a new capital with the "forest city" concept, where over 60 percent of the area will become a green space, Indonesia will demonstrate that it can change and become one of the countries that contribute to the efforts in overcoming global warming.

"The relocation of the capital city showcases that commitment," he remarked.

The development of Indonesia's new capital city named "Nusantara" will use "smart" and "green" concepts, from government to residential areas.

The smart concept means that every infrastructure built in the city will utilize modern technology in its implementation.

Meanwhile, the green concept refers to the use of environment-friendly facilities and infrastructure. Thus, every infrastructure built can contribute to preserving the environment in the new capital, Nusantara.

Earlier, Indonesia's House of Representatives had approved the State Capital Bill to become a law at a plenary meeting on January 18, 2022.

National Development Planning Minister Suharso Monoarfa has stated that Indonesia's new capital city in East Kalimantan would be named Nusantara.
