A prompt, convenient, simple, affordable, and professional legal service would ensure a just law enforcement
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) praised the Supreme Court for its tireless efforts in expediting legal transformation in Indonesia, including by accelerating the development of a modern justice system.

"The government wishes to laud and express its gratitude to the Supreme Court for its tireless efforts in accelerating the development of a modern justice system and transforming the conventional justice system to expedite legal transformation in Indonesia," President Jokowi stated during the 2021 Supreme Court Annual Report Special Session, broadcast virtually from the Jakarta Presidential Palace on Tuesday.

The president remarked that legal transformation is essential to improve legal services for residents seeking justice in court.

"A prompt, convenient, simple, affordable, and professional legal service would ensure a just law enforcement," Jokowi remarked.

The spirit of reform within the Supreme Court is also consistent with the current government's mission to transform the country in all aspects, he noted.

The president then expressed optimism that the Supreme Court would set landmark decisions that would offer just legal clarity to all members of society, the business community, and investors, as well as to protect the state and the public's assets.

He also expressed hope that the Supreme Court would deliver a just verdict to serve as a deterrent for corruptors and mafias to the legal system that had harmed the nation's justice system.

Alternative models for the resolution of cases must be taken into account by the Supreme Court, the president remarked while suggesting mediation as an alternative model that the Court could attempt in the resolution of future cases.

"Prioritising restorative justice for criminal cases and the dialogue process among victims, suspects, and relevant parties must be done professionally, transparently, and accountably to achieve just law enforcement," Jokowi remarked.

While delivering his remarks, the president was accompanied by Coordinating Minister of Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly, and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung.
