Bogor, West Java (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) has appealed to Muslims to not organize or attend fast-breaking meals involving large groups of people during Ramadan 1443 Hijriah.

"I hereby urge Muslims not to organize or attend sahur and iftar activities that can cause crowds," General clChairman of the Bogor District Indonesian Ulema Council KH Ahmad Mukri Aji said in Cibinong, Bogor district, on Tuesday.

The appeal has been made to support the Bogor district government’s efforts to stem the spread of COVID-19, as stipulated in the head of Bogor District's Circular Number 1252/covid-19/sekret/IV/2022 regarding the notice to not conduct mass break fast sessions, he added.

Aji said that the appeal to not eat en masse is the fourth of six edicts issued by MUI.

The first is a call for Muslims to use Ramadan as a momentum to practice and improve tolerance so there was some difference between the beginning and the end of the month in terms of betterment.

The second edict allows tarawih, tadarus, itikaf, and other forms of mass worship in masjids and prayer rooms under the condition that health protocols are adhered to.
