Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Sjarifuddin Hasan has said that the holy month of Ramadan is a chance for Muslims and Indonesians to remind each other and do self-reflection on what they had done in the previous year.

"If what we had done was good, then after Ramadan, we must increase the quality and quantity. However, if we had done a lot of bad things, then we must ask for forgiveness from Allah SWT and improve ourselves," he said in his statement here on Sunday.

He conveyed the statement at the Bogor City community meeting at Sentul Hill, Babakan Madang, Bogor District, West Java, on Saturday.

Hasan noted that the Islamic holy month of Ramadan is also the right momentum to strengthen silaturahmi (communal bond) among people, which will become the community's asset to move forward together.

Meanwhile, in the scope of the state, the emergence of a strong togetherness among people due to the maintained communal bonds will increase the unity and integrity of all elements of society in the country.

"The effect is extraordinary. The national development will be very easy so that in the end, all Indonesian people will enjoy mutual prosperity," he said.

On that occasion, the MPR Deputy Speaker also joined a mass prayer for the safety, unity, and integrity of the nation and for the health of the Indonesian citizens.

According to him, increasing prayers during the holy month of Ramadan would give great benefits and hopefully, the prayers would be answered by Allah SWT.

On the occasion, Hasan also distributed Ramadan gift packages to local residents, mostly cadres of the Democratic Party in Bogor City.
