Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) distributed 53,000 face masks at public facilities in Jakarta, as part of its mask distribution program aimed at fostering public adherence to health protocols.

"This program has been conducted since the beginning of Ramadan. In its implementation, BNPB/National COVID-19 Task Force has collaborated with the Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Office , local mosque managers, and volunteers," Acting Head of the agency's Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center Abdul Muhari said in a statement here on Sunday.

He informed that on Saturday, the agency deployed a team to distribute face masks to people in two mosques in Jakarta, namely Istiqlal Mosque and the Jakarta Islamic Center area.

Muhari stated that the team has routinely distributed face masks at the Istiqlal Mosque in Central Jakarta since the beginning of Ramadan.

Some 28,00f masks were distributed to the worshipers, and visitors of the place of worship and a bazaar which was held around the area.

At the same time, masks were also distributed to people in the Jakarta Islamic Center area, which is located in North Jakarta, he said.

As many as 15,000 masks were distributed to worshipers, visitors of the Ramadan bazaar, and people living around the Jakarta Islamic Center.

In addition to distributing masks, the teams also disseminated information and educated the public to always implement health protocols and partake in COVID-19 vaccinations which conpriise first and second doses as well as booster dose.

Jakarta is still declared as the Level 2 Community Activity Restriction area as per Sunday, April 17, in accordance with Instruction from Home Affairs Minister Number 20 of 2022 concerning Levels 3, 2, and 1 of Community Activity Restrictions in the Java and Bali Regions. The status will be on affect starting from April 5, 2022 to April 18, 2022.
