Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Independent Curriculum (Kurikulum Merdeka) has been designed to help students return to their roots, according to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek).

"So far, educators may have dominated the learning process, but the Independent Curriculum will help students return to their roots and nature. Because their growth and development may be out of the educators' competence," acting head of the Curriculum and Learning Center at the Educational Standards, Curriculum and Assessment Agency (BSKAP) of Kemendikbudristek, Zulfikri Anas, said in a statement issued on Wednesday.

In essence, the curriculum is meant as a tool to help children achieve educational goals. As a tool, the curriculum must support a child’s educational progress, he added.

The basic philosophy of the Independent Curriculum was expressed by Ki Hadjar Dewantara long before Indonesia's independence, Anas said.

The Independent Curriculum is meant to help all students recognize their unique potential.

Unlike in the Independent Curriculum, when educators make mistakes in providing education services, children fail to discover their unique nature and this becomes the educators' responsibility.

"Before the educators form a teaching plan, they must identify the children to start an initial assessment in various ways. In the early months, teachers must have a map of a child's early abilities before starting learning," Anas said.

Technology expert from Kemendikbudristek, Lasty Devira Kesdu, explained that the Independence Teaching Platform (Merdeka Mengajar Platform) is a supporting platform for implementing the Independent Learning curriculum.

This program could assist teachers in accessing references, inspiration, and knowledge to implement the Independent Curriculum.

"This platform is an educational platform that becomes a driving companion for teachers for realizing Pancasila Students and supports teachers to teach, learn, and work better," she remarked.

The Independence Teaching Platform provides a reference for developing learning practices in accordance with the Independence Curriculum. To date, more than two thousand teaching tools based on the Independence Curriculum have been made available on the platform, she informed.
