Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) reminded local governments to effectively absorb the regional budget to have an impact on economic growth in the respective regions.

Head of the Domestic Policy Strategy Agency (BSKDN) of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Eko Prasetyanto, called on local governments to re-examine the financial performance of their respective regions and ensure that absorption was going according to schedule.

“Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian has told us on various occasions to not use all the regional budget at the end of the year," he noted in a press release received here, Wednesday.

He later explained that effective and efficient use of the regional budget could contribute to economic growth in the region.

"Our experience during the COVID-19 pandemic was very valuable. Of the 34 provinces, only three recorded positive economic growth," Prasetyanto pointed out.

Hence, he urged the provincial government representatives that attended the Technical Guidance for the Measurement of the Regional Financial Management Index (IPKD) in Yogyakarta this week to ensure that financial management was on target, effective, efficient, and accountable.

He made the appeal to the provincial government representatives, especially those present during the technical guidance to re-examine the performance of their respective regional financial management.

"Let us make this forum a discussion space. We can discuss various aspects about regional financial management for mutual progress," Prasetyanto told representatives of provincial governments across Java and Kalimantan that were present during the technical guidance.

Head of the Research and Development Center for Regional Development and Finance of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Heru Tjahyono, noted that the technical guidance was held to unify perceptions between the central and local governments, especially regarding the technical measurement of regional financial management.

"This activity aims to increase the capacity of local government resources in managing regional finances to become more effective, efficient, and accountable," Tjahyono affirmed.

He expressed optimism that the participants would be able to gain broader insights and knowledge after receiving the technical guidance.

The technical guidance was held by the Ministry of Home Affairs in Yogyakarta on April 26-27, 2022. The provincial government representatives that attended were officials from the Provincial Financial Management Agency, the Regional Development Planning Agency, the Provincial Research and Development Agency, and the Provincial Communications and Informatics Service throughout Java and Kalimantan.
