It is expected that the attempts will reduce traffic congestion.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Transportation Ministry will collaborate with several stakeholders to direct large goods vehicles to cross from Jangkar Port, Situbondo District, rather than from Ketapang Port, Banyuwangi District, both located in East Java Province.

"The attempt aims to anticipate crowds due to (the 2022 Eid Al-Fitr) returning traffic at the Ketapang Port," Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi stated at a coordination meeting at the Integrated Eid Al-Fitr Transportation Post here on Thursday.

Sumadi noted that his side had readied several other precautionary measures, such as the application of traffic engineering.

On the same occasion, Director General of Land Transportation at the ministry Budi Setiyadi remarked that a one-way traffic scheme will be implemented starting at the Watudodol Weighbridge, Banyuwangi District, from the direction of Probolinggo District to the port.

In addition, traffic engineering will be applied from the direction of Banyuwangi District to the port by using the East Java Inner Ring Road.

The period of application of the traffic scheme will be at the discretion of the police.

"The attempts are expected to reduce traffic congestion (at Ketapang Port)," the director general remarked.

The ministry also remarked that the total number of passengers of all transportation modes during the homecoming trip period had reached 7,219,715.
