Jakarta (ANTARA) - The 2nd Side Event of G20 Empower will discuss the role of women in Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) as the drivers of economic growth, G20 Empower Co-Chair Rinawati Prihatiningsih stated.

This event will also discuss efforts to rebuild women's productivity during the post-pandemic period to bolster the people, Prihatiningsih noted during the 2nd Side Event themed, "Rebuilding Women's Productivity Post Pandemic," participated here on Wednesday.

The G20 is an international forum comprising 19 countries that work together to handle major issues. Indonesia holds the G20 Presidency this year.

G20 Empower is one of the working groups in Indonesia's G20 Presidency aimed at expediting women's leadership and empowerment in the private sector.

The theme of this side event aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) target and the previous G20 declaration, she remarked.

Moreover, it aligns with the agenda of G20 Empower as an initiative driven by the keenness to improve and expedite women's productivity post pandemic, she stated.

This event featured three keynote speakers from the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Protection, Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises, and the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.

In addition, it presented a sharing session featuring representatives from the public and private sector.

Prihatiningsih's side expects that this event can encourage the private sector and business entrepreneurs to participate in global issues by adopting policies that support gender equality in the work environment.

Moreover, they expect it to have a huge impact on women and minimize the gender gap currently experienced by women in the workplace as well as in the entrepreneurial sector.

During the event, the minister of women's empowerment and child protection noted that G20 Empower is an important event to realize a collective commitment to fight for gender equality and women's empowerment.
