Semarang, Central Java (ANTARA) - Governor of Central Java Ganjar Pranowo has formed teams that are tasked with expediting the reduction of child stunting rate in the province as part of the efforts to prepare a quality young generation.

The teams comprised various parties, such as the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN), the Health Office, and other agencies in Semarang.

Pranowo noted that the main task of the teams is to collect data on pregnant women, especially since Central Java already has the Central Java Gayeng Nginceng Wong Meteng (5Ng) Program that can be utilized to facilitate the data collection process.

"All pregnant women must be recorded and assessed to find whether they have a problem or not. If there is a problem, immediate intervention will be conducted," he remarked.

Pranowo pointed out that based on theory, as many as 20 percent of the pregnant women experience pregnancy-related problems. Thus, the main task of the teams is to find those facing problems and then take action to handle them.

"The teams for the acceleration of stunting reduction have the main task of coordinating, synergizing, and evaluating the acceleration of stunting reduction in an effective, convergent, and integrated manner by involving various sectors in Central Java Province," Sumarno remarked.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has targeted Indonesia's stunting prevalence rate to be reduced to 14 percent by 2024. According to the Indonesian Nutritional Status Study, the stunting rate in Central Java in 2021 stood at 20 percent.
