Spokesperson for the minister, Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, conveyed this here on Friday. National Awakening Day is commemorated on May 20 every year.
"The Minister of Defense has appealed to the public to redefine the momentum of the National Awakening as a momentum to unite and maintain the spirit of nationalism in the midst of increasingly complex challenges," Anzar Simanjuntak told reporters.
The minister, he said, believes that an advanced, just, and prosperous Indonesia can only be realized if all people join hands, unite, and compete to do what is best for the nation and state.
"Especially young people, work according to their talents and interests. Continue to cultivate the spirit of nationalism and let's take care of this very diverse Indonesia," he remarked.
Meanwhile, in a post on his official Instagram account @jokowi on Friday, President Joko Widodo described National Awakening Day as a moment to move forward together to realize equitable development.

His post was accompanied by moving animations depicting the diversity of the Indonesian people wearing traditional clothes and masks. In the post, the President also recalled several challenges that the nation has faced: from the COVID-19 pandemic to global uncertainty.
"We have passed one challenge after another. We have passed the bitter and sweet times. We are facing a pandemic, recession, and global uncertainty," President Widodo wrote in the post.
The Head of State urged Indonesian citizens to not stop their efforts, and to continue to advance together to achieve equitable development from Sabang to Merauke, from Miangas to Rote Island.
