...feasibility studies and basic design for the access roads of the IKN will also be prioritized...Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), Basuki Hadimuljono, has said that his ministry will start the construction of basic infrastructure for Indonesia’s new capital (IKN) Nusantara in August this year.
He conveyed this information while receiving a South Korean delegation led by the Assistant Minister for Road in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, Lee Yoon-Sang, here, according to a statement received on Tuesday.
Currently, Indonesia and South Korea are collaborating on the integrated management of the Structural Health Monitoring System (SHMS) for bridges across Indonesia as well as the preparation of a master plan and pilot project on Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) for the Jakarta Metropolitan Area.
"In addition to SHMS and ITS, (the collaboration on) feasibility studies and basic design for the access roads of the IKN will also be prioritized as we will start the construction of the basic infrastructure of IKN in August 2022," Hadimuljono said.
In addition, three more grant collaborations are currently in the pipeline, namely feasibility studies and basic design for the Balikpapan Bay immersed tunnel, which will serve as a toll road access for IKN; the establishment of digital and green construction management in Indonesia; as well as the development of a toll road information system in Indonesia.

The South Korean delegation visited the PUPR Minister on Monday (June 20, 2022) as part of the implementation of the 17th Indonesia-Korea Road Conference on June 20–23, which is themed “Smart City for IKN.”
The conference is a bilateral technical cooperation between the Indonesian PUPR Ministry and the South Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport.
“Furthermore, in July (2022), we will send 25 young engineers from PUPR (Ministry) to South Korea for training regarding (the development of) smart cities. In addition, there are 14 young engineers who will be dispatched to learn about SHMS for bridges," the PUPR Minister informed.
Meanwhile, the South Korean minister said that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the development of the IKN has been signed by the two countries.
“After (attending) the conference seminar on June 21, we will conduct a technical study of IKN on the following day (Wednesday, June 22). Our directors and researchers will come (directly) to the (IKN) location to explore more collaborations between the two countries," he informed.
