The second step involves limiting personal data being uploaded onto the internet, he remarked during the Merajut Nusantara webinar titled "Personal Data Protection Effort for Online Transaction Security and Comfort" on Wednesday.
The third step concerns understanding technological hardware being utilized.
While taking into account whether to give personal data to other parties, the people should inquire and understand the goal or purpose for the personal data request, Suratto explained.
"Consider also the risks. Be critical over any offers," he cautioned.
Meanwhile, communication expert from Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN) Jakarta Ismail Cawidu highlighted several aspects that should be taken into account and understood by the people to protect their personal data.
Firstly, people should understand all policies related to a digital platform, such as social media and financial technology.
The people, as platform users, have to read and understand the terms of use within the platform, he noted.
In addition, the people should ensure that the types of products and services provided by the platform suit their needs.
"You also need to ensure that their (digital products and services) are legal," he added.
Thus far, there are still several digital platforms that do not have the official permit from the authorities, Cawidu stated.
In addition, he urged people to thoroughly understand the relevance between the personal data that these platforms requested and the services that they will provide.
