"This is a reminder that increasing digital literacy and skills is a global responsibility for all relevant stakeholders, both government, industry players and non-governmental entities," said Plate, according to a press release issued on Thursday.
The use of digital technology is becoming increasingly massive so joint efforts will be required to ensure that everyone has access to it, he added.
Therefore, efforts to increase digital literacy and skills need to be pursued so that the world can realize an inclusive digital transformation.
According to data from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), by 2022, one in three people in the world will choose not to connect to the Internet because they are not confident and do not understand how to use it.
In view of this, the third session of the DEWG in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara, is expected to discuss three themes or deliverables, the minister said.
The three themes include recommendations and policies to increase the involvement of vulnerable groups in the digital economy, a G20 Toolkit on Digital Skills and Digital Literacy as well as workshops, and a summary of practices and policies for the development of advanced digital skills and digital literacy.
"We hope that this meeting will facilitate a room for sharing the views of the DEWG G20 delegation in discussing these deliverables," said the minister.
All these themes are very relevant for realizing a global digital economy ecosystem and an increasingly inclusive world economy, he emphasized.
"This is in line with efforts to meet the needs of digital skills, so that cross-border data exchange will continue to increase," Plate added.
The third session of the DEWG discussed the second and third priority issues, including digital literacy and skills as well as the flow of data across national borders. Minister Plate said that discussing the two issues is very important for the development of the global digital ecosystem framework.
During the discussions, G20 delegates expressed their desire to optimize digital connectivity as one of the main instruments for post-pandemic global recovery.
