Pading Lake is a former tin mining site, and this demonstrates that the former mine did not cause a disaster but instead (turned out to be) a blessing for all of us
C Bangka, Bangka Belitung (ANTARA) - The Pading Lake tourism attraction in Central Bangka district, Bangka Belitung, is testament that damage caused by human activities can be turned into new economic potential, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno has said.

"Pading Lake is a former tin mining site, and this demonstrates that the former mine did not cause a disaster but instead (turned out to be) a blessing for all of us," the minister expounded during a visit to Pading Lake here on Thursday. He was accompanied by Bangka Belitung acting governor Ridwan Djamaluddin.

His visit was related to the inclusion of the tourist attraction in the list of the top 50 tourism villages for the 2022 Indonesian Tourism Village Award (ADWI).

"I am proud to see residents' spirit to explore their (village's) potential and manage them as a tourism attraction that has a sustainable effect on the local economy," Uno remarked.

He then highlighted that Perlang Village, the site of Pading Lake that has been designated as a tourism village, also has outstanding tourism potential.

"Not only with its nature tourism such as the Pading Lake, but the village's creative economy sector has also begun developing," Uno said.

Products made by small enterprises in Perlang Village could be classified as creative economic products, he added.

"Residents of Perlang Village will be given the opportunity to develop a sustainable creative economy. We will provide training, assistance, and new opportunities to increase their profit," he informed.

Uno assured Perlang Village residents about the vast opportunities in the micro, small, and medium enterprises sector that they can explore to enhance their livelihoods.

"Residents' income will increase if they are focused on quality and sustainable economic development that directly impacts the villagers," the minister said.
