Palembang, South Sumatra (ANTARA) - The governments of South Sumatra and West Java are cooperating on pushing the strengthening of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the two provinces to expand their market share.

The two provinces have agreed to improve cooperation from B2B or Business to Business to B2C or Business to Customer, Governor of South Sumatra, Herman Deru, said while attending a 2022 MSME National Day commemoration event in Bandung, West Java, on Friday.

"Through B2C, the sale of goods or services of MSME players can be carried out directly to consumers, either individuals or groups," he said, according to the South Sumatra provincial government’s public relations social media page.

The development of MSMEs needs to be a concern for all parties because MSMEs have been proven to survive in the midst of economic shocks, Deru noted. In fact, MSMEs are capable of supporting the country's economy.

In the midst of global economic shocks marked by the energy and food crises, Indonesia has so far been able to survive thanks to its natural resources.

In facing this situation, the role of MSME players is essential, especially in keeping the wheels of the economy in the real sector turning.

Deru said that the South Sumatra government is interested in the innovation of the West Java government, namely the establishment of a mall for MSMEs in an open space.

According to him, this innovation can be imitated by South Sumatra, which has no problems in providing land. Currently, South Sumatra is also focusing on running its food self-sufficiency program, namely the South Sumatra Food Self-Sufficiency Movement (GSMP) program, which was launched in 2021.

The program invites the community to use their home yards and small parcels of land to grow crops and raise livestock to meet household food needs.

"We have proven that this has an impact, starting from maintaining economic growth to reducing poverty," he pointed out.

The governor expressed the hope that the GSMP program can be adopted by other provinces in the country, especially West Java.
