Let's face it together -- let's face the threat of the global (food) crisis through (bolstering the) agriculture sector.
Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA) - More than 35 thousand millennial farmers assisted by the Agriculture Ministry have succeeded in obtaining a total of Rp1.4 trillion in people's business credit (KUR) as supporting capital, Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo has said.

"There have been 100 thousand millennial farmers who we have fostered, and so far, more than 35 thousand of them have managed to utilize the KUR, worth around Rp1.4 trillion," he said here on Saturday.

The huge amount of the accessed capital demonstrates a great interest on part of the millennial generation in developing the agriculture sector, he added.

The minister also lauded millennial farmers for running their businesses responsibly.

Hence, the central and regional governments must continue to provide various assistances to motivate young farmers to advance their businesses, he added.

“Of course, we cannot let (millennial farmers) go (running their business alone). Assistance must be given by the government, both at the district (and city), province, as well as central level,” he stated.

Earlier, at the opening of the “Millenial Farmers Meeting II” here on Friday (October 7, 2022), Limpo had urged thousands of millennial farmers from the eastern regions of Indonesia, including Sulawesi, Maluku, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), and Papua, to prepare a modern agricultural concept using digital application systems.

"It (the digitization attempt) is important, hence Indonesia will be able to avoid the threat of global food crisis," he said.

The most important thing for millennial farmers is to build their business concept, he added. The farmers can consult the Agriculture Ministry about their concepts using the link and website provided by the ministry.

"Just use your digital (app) and develop your (business) networking. Let's face it together -- let's face the threat of the global (food) crisis through (bolstering the) agriculture sector," the minister remarked.

He further said that the government has prepared capital access as well as various facilities and infrastructure for the agriculture sector, for instance, KUR.

His ministry is also preparing an agricultural tools and machinery units (alsintan) taxi program, which will allow farmers to rent alsintan.
