Jakarta (ANTARA) - The commemoration of the Youth Pledge is a momentum to encourage citizens to tap into their creativity and boost the economy, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin has said.

"I want to encourage students. If they used to fight against the enemy, now they are fighting through the digital economy and also creative contents," Amin said after the 2022 National Santri Day commemoration event at An-Nawawi Tanara Islamic Boarding School, Serang district, Banten, on Friday.

Some measures that can be taken to address current issues include preventing disinformation and hoax news.

"This includes fighting news that is (spreading) disinformation, hoax, and also those that can spark conflict," the Vice President said.

He acknowledged that there have been some challenges to maintaining unity in Indonesia, but the people have managed to overcome these challenges.

"Tolerance-wise, although there are indeed (little arguments), we are always surprised; one can get through these critical times because we believe that we have a culture of mutual cooperation, understanding, we have national agreements, we have national consensus, everyone overseas thought these the models that we already have, but we are still cautious," he added.

The Vice President further said the government has also pursued extensive collaboration with stakeholders to maintain national unity through various forums and programs to sustain harmony and prevent radicalization in society.

“On the religious aspect, we already have a Religious Harmony Forum; as for the digitalization aspect, I think Mr. Creative Economy Minister has prepared it down to Islamic boarding schools," he added.

He said he is optimistic that Indonesian citizens will be able to face global challenges in the era of digitalization after all the experiences they have had.

"I believe that we will be able to go past various challenges. Our experiences in the past are like that too," he noted.

The Vice President was accompanied by Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno; head of the National Counter Terrorism Agency, Boy Rafli Amar; and acting governor of Banten, Al Muktabar, at the event.
