The presence of women is not just a gender issue
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The issue of gender equality is closely related to companies' performance and not just the role balance between men and women, Communication Coordinator of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Srikandi (SOEs' women community) Nina Kurnia Dewi stated.

"The presence of women is not just a gender issue," she noted during the Mothers' Day Celebration and Creative and Talented SOEs Srikandi Program Unveiling event here on Thursday.

"The presence of women is a business issue since many researches show that the presence of women at top management can improve each companies' performance," she remarked.

Dewi, concurrently the Perum LKBN ANTARA's Finance, Human Resources Management and Risk Management Director, explained that women encounter a more difficult challenge since they have to juggle between their roles in family and at work.

"Through this SOEs Srikandi community, we prove that our companies in each SOEs and the SOEs Ministry encourage creative and talented women. Women can show themselves that they are equal to men," she stated.

SOEs Minister Erick Thohir aims to have women's leadership in SOEs to reach 25 percent by the end of 2023.

Currently, the percentage for women's leadership in SOEs, specifically at the director level, only reached 15 percent.

He deemed that one of the major challenges to reach this target is the lack of talent pool in SOEs.

Thus, he expects that the Creative and Talented SOEs Srikandi Program will be the action to expedite this target achievement.

He also opined that a bigger talent pool will make it easy for SOEs to search for new talents without having to bother to look for them outside of the SOEs' environment.

"Hence, if we are looking for future leaders for SOEs' directors, we have an adequate talent pool. We do not look for them, but we already have the system since we prioritize it," he explained.
