Head of the Public Information Section (Kabagpenum) of the Public Relations Division of the National Police, Senior Commissioner Nurul Azizah, stated in Jakarta on Saturday that rainy weather conditions were expected during the Christmas and New Year holidays, based on the Indonesian Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) projection.
"We urge the public to always maintain order while celebrating the Christmas and New Year holidays and not to commit any violations," Azizah stated.
According to Azizah, the National Police, along with the military (TNI) and other relevant stakeholders involved in securing Operation Lilin 2022, are working optimally to ensure the safety and comfort of Indonesian people during the 2022 Christmas and 2023 New Year celebrations.
However, she said, the public is also urged to maintain order and obey traffic signs, so that the Christmas and New Year celebrations this time run safely and comfortably.
"That is a message to the Indonesian people, so that Christmas and New Year celebrations can run safely and comfortably," she affirmed.
Ahead of the 2022 Christmas celebrations, the volume of vehicles leaving Jakarta for West Java on several toll roads has increased by up to 20 percent.
Based on a survey by the Ministry of Transportation, around 44.4 million people traveled during the 2022 Christmas and 2022 New Year holidays.
In addition to checking the condition of their vehicles, motorists are advised to maintain the speed limit while driving on roads, both toll roads and arteries.
"Because the traffic conditions will be slippery when it rains, so all people driving their vehicles are advised to maintain their vehicle speed," Azizah cautioned.
Based on Police Information records dated December 22, 2022, some 502 incidents of traffic accidents were reported in several regions in Indonesia, with 47 people having died, 51 people being seriously injured, and 405 people being slightly injured, with material losses reaching Rp975 million.
