Semarang (ANTARA) - Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo urged the Semarang city government to reinforce the Babon river-Pengkol river embankment structure to ensure it can prevent more floods in the Dinar Indah Residence, Meteseh Village, Tembalang Sub-district.

"If we look at the damage, the wall on the side is destroyed... Too bad the developer is no more, so once it is handed to the government... well, the government must resolve it," the governor said in Semarang on Thursday.

Pranowo delivered the statement while checking post-flood handling measures at the Dinar Indah Residence. The flooding impacted 147 people, who had to seek shelter.

Pranowo said that the residential area, where hundreds of people live, was situated in a dangerous location, as the embankments were not sturdy, and the residential area was right on the border of Pengkol River.

Such situation was similar to what had occurred in the Pantai Marina Semarang area, he pointed out.

He opined that according to the current cycle, improvements must be made immediately and coordination with the city government and experts to review the area must be pursued with no delay.

Citing the current cycle, he stressed that improvement should be made immediately and coordination with the city government and experts to review the area must be pursued with no delay.

"This is exactly the same as in Brebes District when I saw it last time, so on that side, there must be improvement on its (structure), and it must be elevated," he pointed out.

While reviewing the handling efforts, the governor took time out to review the temporary embankment that was built and said that the embankment was actually quite high, but the excess water discharge at that time exceeded the embankment's capacity.
