"We hope the achievement would enhance the performance of national aviation, become a momentum of recovery, and advance the national aviation industry," Sumadi stated here, Thursday.
The minister highlighted that Garuda Indonesia was anointed as the most punctual global airline in 2022 by the official airline guide Flightview, an international research company assessing on-time performance (OTP) in airlines worldwide.
Of the five airlines with the best OTP in 2022, according to Flightview, Garuda Indonesia topped the list by recording an OTP of 95.63 percent.
SafAir of South Africa came second on the list by recording 95.30-percent OTP, followed by Eurowings of Germany, with 95.26 percent; Thai AirAsia of Thailand, 92.33 percent; and Jeju Airlines of South Korea, in the fifth place, with OTP of 91.84 percent.
Garuda Indonesia's best OTP performance in 2022 was the flag carrier's second achievement after having bagged the same award in 2019, the minister noted.
Meanwhile, Sumadi expressed optimism that the achievement would increase public trust in national airline services.
"I also hope this good on-time performance could be consistent and emulated by other national airlines," he said.
Besides airline companies that should maintain consistency in serving passengers, the minister said that passengers must also play their role in helping airlines maintain on-time performance.
"(Passengers) must properly arrange their arrival time in the airport, and they must come earlier (before their flights). Hence, their pre-flight processes, such as check-in and boarding, would not hinder the airlines' on-time performance," the minister stated.
