Jakarta (ANTARA) - Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Abdullah Azwar Anas has expressed his support for the transformation of immigration services of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.

"The 'face' of immigration (services) becomes a representation of Indonesia because immigration is the checkpoint of foreigners entering Indonesia," he said at the “National Evaluation and Consolidation Meeting on Immigration” of the Directorate General of Immigration, according to a written statement received on Thursday.

Therefore, a comprehensive transformation of immigration services is needed, he added.

According to him, the government is paying attention to immigration. President Joko Widodo has also accorded special attention to the transformation of immigration services.

Likewise, Minister of Law and Human Rights, Yasonna Hamonangan Laoly, is also focusing on it.

"We in the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform are tasked with strengthening bureaucratic governance," Anas said.

In accordance with the President's directives, which have been followed up by the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, the transformation of immigration service governance is being carried out by implementing integrated digitalization, he noted.

This is an effort to present a bureaucracy that has an impact and is directly felt by the community, he said.

"Technology can become the instrument," he added.

He further said that to support the effectiveness of immigration service governance, it is necessary to observe several supporting requirements. The requirements begin with the simplification of business processes for the integration of existing immigration services.

This needs to be followed by the strengthening of institutional capacity, optimization of resources, and strengthening of system standards and information security.

Director general of immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Silmy Karim, said that Minister Anas attended the working meeting to share his inspirational experiences, especially related to innovation in public services.

The minister's career has become a motivation for the staff of the Directorate General of Immigration, he added.
