Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo has planned to fly to Nusantara City next week, according to Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono.

"In the next week," the minister confirmed here on Thursday.

Hadimuljono said that the head of state would visit the new capital city on February 22-23, 2023. The minister planned to visit on February 21.

"On February 21, I will go there," he said.

He noted that President Joko Widodo had planned to review the progress in development of Nusantara City on February 2023 in preparation for a review with investors.

Currently, no issues were reportedly encountered in the physical development of Nusantara City. The ministry is still completing the work on some infrastructures, such as streets, to support connectivity.

The Public Works and Public Housing Ministry is tasked with handling the infrastructural aspects, such as roads, land development, and office complexes, so as to ensure that they could support operations immediately.

According to the government's initial estimate, development of the new capital city would take as much as Rp466 trillion (US$30.7 billion). The government plans to pursue the development, with a funding scheme wherein 80 percent of the project fund came from sources other than the state budget, while the other 20 percent from the state budget.

Funding from the state budget would be channeled to build basic infrastructure, government buildings, palaces for the president and vice president each, and more.

As for non-state budget sourced funding, they would be pooled with schemes that have met legal requirements, such as investments. This funding would be utilized to build hospitals, integrated educational institutions, office and service complexes, multipurpose buildings, commercial facilities, and residential areas.

President Jokowi in late January said that moving the capital city was not only a matter of moving buildings or infrastructure but also a form of structural transformation. It was an effort to create a just and inclusive life, he added.
