Budapest, Hungary (ANTARA) - House of Representatives' (DPR RI's) Deputy Speaker Rachmat Gobel highlighted the development of Indonesia's new capital Nusantara to leaders of the Hungarian National Assembly.

During his working visit here, Monday (February 20), Gobel remarked that the new capital would benefit Indonesia, particularly in bolstering economic development and realizing an equitable economy outside the Java-Sumatra-Bali areas.

"By relocating the capital to Kalimantan, the eastern part of Indonesia that has been underdeveloped for so long will have greater opportunities to grow and develop," Gobel informed the Hungarian National Assembly deputy speaker, Olah Lajos.

Apart from optimizing the national economic growth, the new capital will also help alleviate the social and environmental burden in Jakarta and Java Island as the consequences of economic development.

"Jakarta and Java must bear the social and environmental burdens, and by relocating the capital, the burdens would be alleviated, as the economic gravity will also grow in the eastern Indonesian region," the deputy speaker stated.

He noted that the new capital will be developed, with an emphasis on environmental sustainability, and deforestation will be avoided.

"(The new capital) will be a model for other cities in Indonesia in the matter of spatial planning and development of green cities. It will surely be emulated by others," he stressed.

Gobel said he personally supported the development of the new capital since it would benefit his home province of Gorontalo, located in the northern part of Sulawesi, and its people.

He also promised his Hungarian counterpart to encourage leaders in the new capital development to come to Hungary to speak about the new capital to Hungarian businesspersons.

Meanwhile, the deputy speaker commended the Hungarian government's decision to grant 110 scholarships annually for Indonesian students to study in the country, thereby demonstrating that bilateral relations between Indonesia and Hungary were based on people-to-people ties.

He also lauded the increasing economic cooperation between both countries and pointed out that in 2021, the Hungarian company Roatex had won a US$300-million tender for developing a digital toll road payment system in Indonesia.
