Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has appointed Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy as the acting minister of youth and sports following Zainudin Amali’s resignation from the ministerial post.

On the sidelines of his visit to the Kesiman Kertalangu Integrated Waste Management Location (TPST) here on Monday, Widodo informed that so far, he has not settled upon a definitive replacement for Amali.

"Just wait for his replacement, we will decide it immediately," he told ANTARA.

Widodo further said that he and Amali had met on Monday morning. Amali delivered his resignation to the State Secretariat, which, the President said, he approved.

On March 9, 2023, Amali had submitted his resignation letter to Minister of State Secretariat Pratikno.

Amali said he resigned because he wanted to focus on managing the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) following his appointment as deputy chairperson I of PSSI on February 16.

He formally announced his resignation from his ministerial post while reviewing preparations for the U-20 World Cup at Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium, Surabaya, with PSSI chairperson Erick Thohir on Monday.

"On Monday morning, I met President Jokowi and he received my resignation letter. I was allowed to step down from my position as the Youth and Sports Minister," he informed.

He stressed that he resigned because he wanted to focus on managing Indonesian football. He then asked the media to not address questions related to the Ministry of Youth and Sports to him.

Amali also said that he received a number of directives regarding his new role as deputy PSSI chairperson from the President, including on the development of Indonesian football quality.
