Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) Bambang Susantono has said that OIKN has received 167 letters of interest (LoIs) from 16 countries for investment in different development projects in the new capital,

He made the statement during a meeting with Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) at the Parliament Complex here on Monday.

Domestic investors have also sent quite as many LoIs as foreign ones, he informed.

The construction of infrastructure and facilities in the future capital city is still running according to plan, he said.

"We are currently assessing which investors are serious in submitting their proposals to partake in the development of the IKN," the OIKN head added.

Susantono said the government is planning to use just 25 percent of the total area of the IKN for the development of residential and public facilities, while reforestation would be carried out in the remaining area.

The total area of the IKN is 256 thousand hectares.

Earlier, Susantono and United Nations Development Program’s (UNDP’s) Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, Kanni Wignaraja, inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on collaboration for building the future Indonesian capital as a sustainable city.

Both parties agreed to encourage inclusive, just, productive, and sustainable development practices at the IKN through various plans, programs, publications, joint training, and conferences.

"We are very pleased with this cooperation because it will expedite our attempts to realize the IKN as an inclusive city," Susantono said in a press release on March 23, 2023.

A number of joint initiatives will be implemented under the MoU to realize the eight main principles of IKN’s development, including developing the city in harmony with nature, upholding unity in diversity, as well as building an accessible, agile, and integrated city, he informed.

The other principles comprise applying low carbon emission technology, developing a circular and resilient economy, promoting safety and accessibility, ensuring good implementation of security and efficiency through technology, as well as creating inclusive economic opportunities, he added.

The collaboration is also expected to help the Indonesian government in establishing the IKN as a national identity symbol for realizing the 2045 Indonesia Vision.
