Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Home Affairs Ministry stated that the terms of office of some 17 governors will end in September 2023.

"Some 17 governors' terms of office will end from September 2023," Head of the information center at the ministry Benni Irwan noted in his statement received here on Wednesday.

The terms of office of 10 governors will end in September 2023, whereas the tenure of two others will end in October 2023, while five governors will end their time in office in December 2023, he elaborated.

Citing the law, Irawan revealed that the terms of office of the governors of Riau, Lampung, East Java, Maluku, and North Maluku will end in December 2023 despite them being sworn into office in 2019.

"It is stipulated in Article 201, number (4) and (5) of Law Number 10 of 2016 about Governor, Head of District, and Mayor election," he pointed out.

Irawn said the law stipulated that the election of governor, head of district, mayor, and their deputies, whose terms of office ended in 2018 and 2019, would be hosted at the same date in June 2018.

The fifth point of the article stated that the governor, head of district, mayor, and the deputies that had been elected in the 2019 election will be in office until 2023, he explained.

The 10 governors who will end their leadership term in September 2023 are North Sumatra Governor Edy Rahmayadi, West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil, Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo, Bali Governor Wayan Koster, West Nusa Tenggara Governor Zulkieflimansyah, East Nusa Tenggara Governor Viktor Laiskodat, West Kalimantan Governor Sutarmidji, South Sulawesi Governor Andi Sudirman Sulaiman, Southeast Sulawesi Governor Ali Mazi, and Papua Governor Lukas Enembe.

Two governors, whose terms of office will end in October 2023, are South Sumatra Governor Herman Deru and East Kalimantan Governor Isran Noor.

In December 2023, five governors who will end their terms of office are Riau Governor Syamsuar, Lampung Governor Arinal Djunaldi, East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa, Maluku Governor Murad Ismail, and North Maluku Governor Gani Kasuba.
