It is no longer communication to people, but communication with people.
Pamekasan, East Java (ANTARA) - The government has continued its efforts to expand the role of public information communities (IKMs) in providing added value and spreading public information more broadly, the Communication and Information Ministry has said.

"This activity is also being undertaken to increase positive value in spreading public information through the strategic partnership program with other institutions," Ministry Official Hasyim Gautama said during an online dialogue here on Friday evening.

In the beginning, the abbreviation KIM stood for public information group. However, over time, the word “group” was changed to “community.”

Through this change, the role of KIM was expanded and all elements, such as entrepreneurs and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), were allowed to create public information communities.

"By changing it from a group to a community, this will automatically broaden and diversify the potential spread and dissemination of information that will be produced by KIM activists," he explained.

"And this concept is a development of communication pattern paradigm in society. It is no longer communication to people, but communication with people," he added.

In addition, for the expansion of public information spread access, the change of name from group to community is part of an effort to encourage KIM activists to become accustomed to the digital communication pattern.

This has been done so that information can be quickly disseminated to the public.

This is because the speed of delivering information is very crucial, primarily in emergency conditions, such as reporting a disaster in real-time, according to Gautama.

"This digital pattern is very different. Initially, the partnership was done through traditional methods, but with these digital methods, it can be done through social media," he said.

"The ministry is trying to bring transformation from a conventional pattern to a digital pattern so that the partnership can be made more effective and more efficient," he added.

Currently, the number of KIMs recorded by the ministry across Indonesia has reached 4,114.
