Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is helping the founder of Nikuba to pursue further research and development of the device, which, it is claimed, can turn water into fuel.

BRIN Head Laksana Tri Handoko said that the agency has several research facilities, which can be utilized by everyone, not just the scholars or industry actors, but also individuals.

"BRIN has all facilities, which we offer as facilities for all researchers in the homeland, be it on campuses, including for personal use, such as for that person who made Nikuba. That (initiative) is what we are currently pushing for scientific (pursuit), that's the number one," he informed at a press conference in Soekarno Science and Technology Area in Cibinong, Bogor, West Java, on Wednesday.

He said that the agency heard of Nikuba last year and sent a team to check out the device first-hand.

According to the team's assessment, Nikuba—which is a portmanteau word coined from Niku Banyu (This Is Water)—still needs to be researched further. However, BRIN still commends and supports the initiative, he added.

He said he expects Nikuba's founder to perfect the tool, considering it uses hydrogen, which has many variations, as the main material that is turned into fuel.

"In science, we have to be very careful. So, we will monitor it together, we will develop it until it can be scientifically proven and can be accepted by the scientific community," he disclosed.

According to media reports, the founder of Nikuba, Aryanto Misel, visited Milan, Italy, on June 18, where he got the opportunity to present his findings to Italian automotive factories.

Misel said that Nikuba can change water into energy to power internal combustion engines in motor vehicles.

He explained that Nikuba separates hydrogen (H2) and oxygen (O2) from water (H2O). After the two compounds are separated, hydrogen is channeled into a chamber in the motor vehicle's engine to produce energy.
