The ASEAN, led by Indonesia this year, state "very disappointed" with that action, especially expressed during the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM) in Jakarta this week, according to the joint statement by the ASEAN Foreign Ministers.
That regional organization reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace, security, and stability in the region.
North Korea, as a member of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), is also able to fulfill the commitments.
"We (ASEAN) urge DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) to take action to reduce tensions and call on peaceful dialogue with the parties concerned," according to the statement.
ASEAN re-emphasized the need for all countries to comply with the United Nations Security Council Resolutions (UNSCR) and international law.
"We reiterate our readiness to play a constructive role, including through leveraging ASEAN-led forums, such as ARF," the statement noted.
North Korea tested its Hwasong-18 solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) on Wednesday, Yonhap said, citing state media KCNA.
Pyongyang revealed that the missile flew 1,001 kilometers, at a maximum altitude of 6,648 km.
The UN Security Council will meet openly on Thursday to address the launch by North, said the President of the United Nations Security Council currently, the United Kingdom.
