"There are the criteria (to qualify for the visa), such as high intellectuals, researchers, graduates of top universities, and influential people, like ChatGPT (CEO) Sam Altman," Pandjaitan noted at the Jakarta Presidential Palace here on Tuesday.
According to the minister, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will grant the Golden Visa to Altman owing to his frequent visits to Indonesia.
"Because he often visits Indonesia and also wants it, we give it to him then," he revealed.
He said that the regulation of the Golden Visa issuance, which is a special visa for investors to stay in the country, is being harmonized across ministries and agencies and led by the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment.
The revision of the Government Regulation (PP) on the Golden Visa policy is expected to be completed in the upcoming weeks.
"We are carrying out harmonization of the Golden Visa (regulation). I think it will be completed in one or two weeks," he remarked.
Meanwhile, Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno stated that the Golden Visa policy was already in the finalization stage and will prevail after being signed by the president.
Golden Visa is a strategy from the Directorate General of Immigration of the Law and Human Rights Ministry to attract more foreign investors to Indonesia. Golden visa holders will get a stay permit in Indonesia for 5-10 years.
The visa policy will bring benefits to Indonesia, as investors put their capital in the country concretely.
Golden Visa will target foreigners from the upper middle class, especially businesspersons and global talents, to contribute to building the national economy.
