Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta provincial government will preserve documents related to COVID-19 pandemic handling as part of historic records that could help guide efforts to anticipate future pandemics.

"Saving COVID-19 archives is to provide an understanding of the importance of archive management, especially for all archive (document) creators within the Jakarta provincial government," an official at the province's secretariat, Widyastuti, informed here on Friday.

Therefore, the provincial government held an information session on saving archives related to the handling of COVID-19 at the City Hall, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (September 21), she said.

The central government and Jakarta provincial government dealt with the pandemic well, Widyastuti said.

"It will be a loss if it is not well-documented. We leave historical records, not just documentation," she said.

The COVID-19 archive can provide lessons on the people's journey, especially Jakarta residents, in facing the pandemic.

Head of the Jakarta Library and Archives Office, Firmansyah, said that all archives on the COVID-19 pandemic must be stored properly.

"When this becomes a collection of documents, it will serve as a guidebook in case a disease outbreak like the COVID-19 pandemic happens again," he added.

He said that the Jakarta Provincial Library and Archives Office is ready to provide guidance and assistance to all regional apparatus organizations (OPD) and regional-owned enterprises (BUMD) in saving COVID-19 archives.

Representatives from the National Archives of Indonesia, the former Jakarta COVID-19 handling task force, and the Jakarta Health Office took part in the information session on archiving COVID-19 documents on Thursday.
