Jakarta (ANTARA) - The West Sumatra provincial government stated that the "Discover West Sumatra" event in Jakarta is a valuable opportunity to promote tourism; micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs); and other potentials of the province.

"This Discover West Sumatra event is an opportunity for the provincial government to promote and educate the public about the province that has potential in culinary, natural panoramas, culture, and so on," West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi stated here on Saturday.

During the event held throughout October, the governor remarked that people in the Greater Jakarta area can enjoy Minangnese cuisine, culture, and art.

"Every weekend, there is a Minangnese art (performance)," he noted.

Mahyeldi affirmed that Discover West Sumatra is part of the events commemorating the province's 78th Anniversary.

The governor thanked all parties involved in the event.

"This is an opportunity for us to introduce West Sumatra to the public," he stated.

The Discover West Sumatra event aims to improve and utilize West Sumatra's flagship potential that includes tourism, MSMEs, culture, and investment.

It is a promotional event in the form of an exhibition of MSME products, art and cultural performances, and cuisines.

The West Sumatra provincial government is also targeting 8.2 million tourists this year through the Visit Beautiful West Sumatra Program. Most of the foreign tourists in the province come from European countries, Malaysia, and Australia.

Discover West Sumatra is the result of collaboration between the province's regional apparatus organizations and other parties.

It is expected to have a positive impact on tourism, MSMEs, and investment in the province.

The Discover West Sumatra event is being held on October 1-31 at Hotel Borobudur, Jakarta. The event was opened by Governor Mahyeldi and attended by several officials.
