Majalengka, W Java (ANTARA) - A number of foreign investors are interested in investing in the development of Kertajati Airport or West Java International Airport in Majalengka district, West Java, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi has said.

"There are investors from India, Saudi Arabia, and Singapore who are interested in investing here (Kertajati Airport)," he informed after carrying out a review at the airport here on Wednesday.

According to him, a number of foreign investors have shown interest in investing in Kertajati Airport, and a majority have expressed a desire to be involved in managing the airport.

He informed that the investment has been approved by the West Java provincial government and President Joko Widodo, and its realization is targeted for December 2023.

"It is still in a closed context, so I cannot convey it (the details) yet, but the interest is already there, and I have reported it to the governor and President, and it was approved," he said.

According to Sumadi, the interest of investors in Kertajati Airport shows that the airport's potential is known up to the international level and its development can boost the national economy.

He further said that the presence of the airport could stimulate economic growth in supporting regions, such as Cirebon, Majalengka, Brebes, and Tegal.

Giving an example, the minister said that before the airport becomes fully operational in late October 2023, it has started receiving many foreign tourists from Malaysia.

He expressed optimism that the flight occupancy rate at the airport will increase in the future.

"Kertajati is not only Kertajati itself, but more regionally, it serves Greater Bandung, Sumedang, Cirebon, Indramayu, Brebes, Tegal, Tasik, and Garut," he said.
